SORT VEJFEST 2024 – Our First Leap, Our New Tradition

We still get goosebumps thinking about that Saturday in July 2024. The sun was shining, Sønder Boulevard was buzzing, and for the first time ever, we threw ourselves headfirst into creating the non-profit festival SORT VEJFEST together with our good friend Morten. Sure, we’d been to plenty of festivals before, but this was our debut as organizers. And wow, what a ride!

Our dream was simple: bring together the best bands from our favorite genres, invite our neighbors (and their dogs and kids!), and make sure every musician got paid fairly. We wanted to create something that felt like home - a festival where everyone belonged, whether you were a die-hard punk fan or just happened to be cycling by.

And you know what? We did it! Over 500 people gathered at one point, and even more drifted in and out throughout the day. The crowd was a beautiful mix: friends, neighbors, families, and plenty of new faces. The energy was electric, but also warm and welcoming. It felt like the whole street was ours.

The music? Unforgettable. Inertials, Beskidt Service, The Preachers, Vulvatorious, Nexø, Foreshadower and Katla tore up the stage, while our amazing sound engineer, host, and DJ kept the vibes flowing. Behind the bar, our volunteer crew worked their magic, keeping the drinks cold and the spirits high.

But what really made it special was the community. Muve lent us their mobile stage. Our neighbors lent us their office for backstage, Khioshk sorted sandwiches for the bands and crew, Dry & Bitter kept us hydrated, and Julehjælpen’s popcorn machine was a hit with everyone (a local initiative that provides Christmas food and gifts to families in need). When the last note faded and the festival ended, everyone pitched in to clean up, leaving Sønder Boulevard even tidier than we found it.

We didn’t have a big marketing budget, but we had heart. Facebook, Instagram, flyers, posters, and word of mouth did the trick. The response from the local area was incredible, no complaints, just smiles and support. SORT VEJFEST was more than a festival; it was the start of a new tradition!

It’s clear that SORT VEJFEST is more than an event—it’s a growing tradition rooted in music, diversity, and community. With each year, the festival strengthens local ties, supports emerging talent, and proves that when people come together, something truly special happens on Vesterbro.
